World Liver Day is celebrated every year to make people aware of the conditions related to the liver and ensure liver health. The liver is the second largest organ of the human body. Its functions are removing toxins and wastes from our body, production and excretion of bile and metabolism of fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.
If all the above functions are not fulfilled by the liver, it can give rise to serious diseases including Hepatitis, liver cirrhosis, alcoholic liver disease and liver cancer. It is very important to take care of the liver to prevent liver-related diseases.
Some of the measures to prevent liver diseases are quitting alcohol, avoiding risk factors, maintain proper weight, vaccination, regular health checkup, avoiding contact with infected blood or any other body fluid and avoiding over the counter medicines.
