Utkal Divas also known as Odisha Day is marked on 1st April to commemorate the formation of a separate state of Odisha from Bihar and Odisha province by combining Koraput and Gnajam districts from Madras Presidency.
After 1568 when there was a loss of political identity after the defeat and demise of the last king Mukunda Dev a separate state was was formed under the British raj on a linguistic basis in 1936. The day is celebrated all over Odisha.
Many shops and Jhankis make this day even more beautiful. Many local politicians arrange competitions like fireworks competition. All the firework displays make the sky look even more lovely. All Odia families on this day arrange cultural programs like sing-song competition.
It is a day when all Odia people feel unity among each other. On this day, we can learn more about Odisha, its culture, language as well as its history.
