National Panchayati Raj Day is a great opportunity to interact with all the representatives of Panchayats or village heads across the country. The day recognizes the work done by Panchayati leaders.
It is an occasion to facilitate and recognize the Panchayats all over the country in their efforts to make an Aatmnirbhar Bharat. The Prime Minister of the country also addresses all the Panchayats on this day.
74,000 Panchayats will participate in the festivities this year. SVAMITVA (Survey of Villages and Mapping with Improvised Technology in Village Areas) will be launched by the Prime Minister on this day. The day will also witness the launch of a coffee table book.
There has been a 28% increase in participation as compared to last year's National Panchayati Raj Day. India has a three-tier Panchayati System including Gram Panchayat, Panchayat Samiti and Zilla Panchayat. The system works for the economic and social development of people.
There are around 2.6 lakh Panchayats across the nation The first National Panchayati Raj Day was declared in 2010 by Dr Manmohan Singh. There was a 73rd Constitutional Amendment in 1993 which institutionalised the Panchayati Raj system.
