Ayushman Bharat Diwas: A day to promote all kinds of healthcare facilities to people across the country
The scheme of the Narendra Modi government was launched keeping in mind the universal health coverage to meet one of the Substantial Development Goals of the United Nations which is to leave no one behind.
As per Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan, India has brought into function 75,532 Ayushman Bharat Health and Wellness Centers till now despite COVID 19 and is going to functionalise 1.5 lakh HWCs by December 2022.
Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna is a primary component of Ayushman Bharat Yojna. The scheme was launched in 2018 in Ranchi by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is the largest health scheme in the world.
The scheme tends to provide a health cover of 5 lakh per family per year to around 10.74 crore vulnerable and poor families. The beneficiaries of the scheme are from the bottom 40 per cent of the Indian population.
The scheme is completely funded by the central government and implementation cost is shared between states and centre. The scheme gives cashless hospitalization. It covers three days of pre-hospitalization and 15 days of post-hospitalization expenditure including medicines and tests.
The benefits of the scheme are accessible across the country which means that an individual can visit any assigned private or public healthcare facility in India for cashless hospitalization. All pre-existing conditions are covered from the first day and services include around 1,393 procedures.
