The Ordnance Factory Board is celebrating 220th Ordnance Factory Day today and some of the worker's federations who are opposed to the idea of corporisation of OFB has asked that the day should be observed as Save Ordnance Factories Day.
The day marks the foundation of the establishment of the first Ordnance Factory at Cossipore near Kolkata in 1801. The network of Ordnance Factories includes 41 factories which have been divided into five operational divisions of OFB and makes a defence production group having one of the widest range of products across the world.
The government wants to corporatise OFB which has faced opposition from the workers federation of 41 ordnance factories and associated units across the country.
The opposition has brought together many opposition parties who are favouring the workers. Despite all the opposition from three major federations, the Defence Ministry is continuing with the process.
