January 12, which is celebrated as National Youth Day all over India is actually the birthday of Swami Vivekananda. The day was declared as Youth Day in 1984 by the Indian Government and has been celebrated since 1985. Swami Vivekananda was one of the most famous Monk or Philosopher across the world.
Swami Vivekananda was the disciple of Swami Ramakrishna Paramahansa. The objective behind celebrating this day as said by the Government of India is that Swamiji's ideals, teachings and philosophy is very much relevant for today's youth.
Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2013 addressed the nation by saying that the ideals of Swami Vivekananda are similar to Mahatma Gandhi and should be celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal.
The day is celebrated every year in schools and colleges through seminars, yogasanas, presentation, recitation, sports, music, speeches among others. It is a very important occasion for youth all across the country.
