Lohri is a winter festival celebrated across Punjab. The festival marks the end of winter and the arrival of long summer days. It is observed just a day before Makar Sakranti. It is celebrated not only in Punjab but is spread all across India.
It also celebrates the winter harvest and the farmers remember Sun deity and thank him for giving them good crops which is one of the reasons why Agni is lighted on his day as he gives them heat and light so that the crops can grow well.
The day is celebrated by lighting fire and performing traditional dances like Gidda and Bhangra. It is necessary to eat gur and til items on this day. There are many traditional songs sung by children on this day and it is a fun and entertaining festival which brings people together for celebrations.
