African National Congress or ANC is the ruling political party of South Africa. It has won every election after the 1994 election in which Nelson Mandela came to power. Cyril Ramaphosa, the current President of South Africa is the leader of ANC since December 2017.
The party was founded by John Langalibalele Dube in January 1912 Bloemfontein as South African Native National Congress or SANNC. The primary objective of this party was to bring Africans together as a single unit and defend their freedom and rights.
This included giving complete voting rights to black South Africans and mixed-race South Africans and end the apartheid system from 1948 which was introduced by Nationalist Party Government after their elections in the same year by white voters only.
The day is actually a reminder of the freedom given to all the people of South Africa without discriminating between caste, creed, color or religion and choose the eligible leader to guide them.
