All the countries across the world have minorities whether it is cultural, linguistic or traditional. The central government needs to preserve and protect their rights. The reason behind celebrating Minorities Rights Day is to educate the minorities about their rights and focus on issues faced by minorities of the country.
The day helps us in understanding the issue of minorities and their safety concerns. Indian Consitution has given equal rights to all the citizens and safeguards the rights of minorities. Ministry of Minority Affairs was set up in 2006 by carving it from the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The communities which are said to be minorities in India are Jains, Buddhists, Muslims, Sikhs and Zoroastrians. A National Commission for Minorities or NCM was set up under National Commission for Minorities Act, 1992.
On this day, we can get more knowledge about the minorities in India and how we can uplift them and give them a better life.
