Good Governance Day is marked on 25th of December every year to remember Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth anniversary. It was celebrated for the first time in 2014 to honour A.B. Vajpayee by bringing awareness in Indian people of accountability in government.
The day is a working day for the Government of India. Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya and Ex-Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee were announced as recipients by the former President Pranab Mukherjee.
After this announcement, newly elected Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that the birth anniversary of the Prime Minister would be celebrated annually as Good Governance Day in India.
The Indian National Congress criticized the BJP for keeping Good Governance Day on the same day as Christmas and declaring it a working day for the Government questioning the national secularity.
