How Guru Arjan Dev Ji Helped in The Formation of Sikhism

Sri Guru Arjan Dev JI | SIKHGURU
Guru Arjan Dev is first out of two Gurus who was martyred in the Sikh religion. He had compiled Adi Granth which was expanded on to Guru Granth Sahib. He was the first Guru in Sikhism to be born in a Sikh Family. He completed the construction of Darbar Sahib in Amritsar the foundation of which was laid by fourth guru.

He was arrested by Mughal Emperor Jahangir and asked to convert to Islam. He refused and was tortured and ultimately executed in 1606. It is unclear whether Guru Arjan died due to execution by drowning or torture. It is a watershed event in the history of Sikhism.

Guru Arjan Dev Ji had advised his son Hargobind Ji to take up arms and fight against the tyranny imposed by Mughals on people. Sikhism which was started as a peaceful religious practice slowly turned into an armed movement where the gurus advised their disciples to do everything possible to defeat and demolish the Muslim rule in India.

The martyrdom day of Guru Arjan Dev Ji is celebrated with great pomp and show as people remember how he laid his life but did not submit to the dominance of the ruler of the time. There is no doubt in saying that Sikhs have always fought against evil and helped people whenever they required it immensely.
