World Turtle Day: A day to protect and save turtles from extinction

Turtles are aquatic animals who live underwater and have a very good life span. However, many people keep them as pets at their homes which is not a correct thing to do. The main reason behind celebrating this day is to increase knowledge and respect for tortoise and turtles and make people aware of them. 

The day has been sponsored by American Tortoise Rescue since 2000 and encourages human action so that the creatures can survive and progress. It is one of the most important and effective species awareness days which can help in increasing the online information on turtles. 

The day is celebrated across the world in several ways, from wearing green summer dresses to dressing up like turtles. One can also save turtles caught on highways and use them for further research. The teachers can make Turtle Day craft projects and lesson plans to encourage teaching about turtles in the classrooms.
