National Vaccination Day, also known as National Immunization Day is celebrated to make the country realise the importance of vaccination. The day has been observed since 1995 ever since India commenced the Pulse Polio Programme.
The National Vaccination Day is very important this year as the country has started the biggest COVID 19 immunization drive in early 2021 which has already crossed the 30 million mark. Immunization is a process where an individual's immune system is protected against foreign harm causing agent.
Vaccines train a person's immune system to create antibodies. Vaccines are actually weakened forms of germs like virus or bacteria which do not harm a person but create antibodies to safeguard the body when a strong and active disease attacks the body.
National Vaccination Day was observed to stop Polio from plaguing the world. The day was observed to give better awareness of the disease and how it can be completely removed from the planet. Around 172 children are immunized during every National Immunization Day.
