National Safety Day: A day to raise awareness on accidents and mishaps

National Safety Day is celebrated with the sole aim to raise awareness on the safety measures which need to be taken for preventing mishaps and accidents. The main objective behind this day is to renew the commitment of employees and the general public to work safely and ensure the integration of a sound and safe lifestyle and work culture.

The day is celebrated to remember the establishment of the National Safety Council in 1965. It is a self-financing, non-profit and the apex body at the national level. It has been established by the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India.

It is an autonomous body that takes care of Health, Safety and the Environment. The day is celebrated on a wider scale across industries, NGOs, departments and other regulatory agencies in the country.

The objective of the council is to serve and protect society and encourage a preventive culture and scientific mindset among people. Earlier, it was a single day celebration on 4th March but now the celebrations go on for a week-long that is March 4 to 10.

On this day, we can learn more about safety precautions and measures and learn about the work and functions of the organization.
