World Hippo Day: A day to gain knowledge and protect hippos

Hippos are considered to be the world's third largest mammal and they weigh around 1,500 kg. They are mainly herbivorous and eat about 40kg of grass for a single meal. There are many misconceptions about hippos as many people think them similar to pigs.

However, they are the only semi-aquatic animals which live within Sub-Sahara Africa and their closest living relatives are cetaceans like whales and dolphin. In respect to this, it is not a very surprising fact that hippos spent 16 hours a day immersed in water.

Hippos rise every three to five minutes for air even when they are sleeping. Hippos produce an oily red liquid for the sun which functions like sun cream and protects their skin. They have huge size, sweet faces and large bodies.

There are many factors which makes hippo a very important part of an ecosystem. They spend so much time immersed in water that they help in enriching rivers by stirring the mud on the floor. Their excretion has ingredients which are useful for the survival of many aquatic creatures including fish which live in waters.

How online education is proving to be the biggest failure in India

As we all know that the schools have been closed due to COVID 19 pandemic and the students have been taking online classes from the last few months. Online classes are becoming the biggest failures in India. Some of the reasons for the failure of online classes are bad internet connectivity. Despite knowing that all the work around the world is being done online, the cellular networks are not increasing their network speed due to which the class gets hampered.  One of the other reasons can be that students do not have a habit to take classes online and that also on laptops and computers. The setting up of the class like env...

World Turtle Day: A day to protect and save turtles from extinction

Turtles are aquatic animals who live underwater and have a very good life span. However, many people keep them as pets at their homes which is not a correct thing to do. The main reason behind celebrating this day is to increase knowledge and respect for tortoise and turtles and make people aware of them.  The day has been sponsored by American Tortoise Rescue since 2000 and encourages human action so that the creatures can survive and progress. It is one of the most important and effective species awareness days which can help in increasing the online information on turtles.  The day is celebrated across the world in several ways, from wearing green summer dresses to dressing up like turtles. One can also save turtles caught on highways and use them for further research. The teachers can make Turtle Day craft projects and lesson plans to encourage teaching about turtles in the classrooms.
